sitelen kiwen is the brainchild of kala suno, waso laso, and jan salinka-jen. sitelen kiwen uses the colour space of toki pona's loje, jelo, laso, pimeja, and walo to encode toki pona into beadwork!
You can see here that similar sounding letters are kept similar looking, and coda n is written differently from initial n.
This is so that you are always alternating consonant to vowel without parity getting messed up by n.
sitelen kiwen is designed to be encoded using 8 even count peyote stitch, but it is very easy to do more beads or even an entirely different stitch type!
As of now we would like to focus on making bracelets with 8/16 even count peyote, but in the future we want to explore the possibility of belts with more sentences, fringe earrings, or chokers.
The code itself is the genius work of jan salinka-jen, so go appreciate her!
If you donated $20 or more to the original goal, you may request a finished piece with 1-4 sentences encoded (depending on length) as long as you pay the cost of shipping. I’m not charging for my time as of yet, I just want proof of product, but if I do decide to sell these I will likely have to charge higher than $20 just to factor in the time it takes to make them.
We take donations through our ko-fi, tips on the site, venmo and cashapp.
Since this will not be a direct sale, these requests will be worked on whenever I have time. I have a lot of chronic pain issues especially in my hands, so beading is difficult and I will take longer than most other beaders would. Please keep this in mind if you wish to donate with expectation of a finished product. If you donate $20+ and want a finished project, please leave a name and contact email in your donation message so I can ask for a shipping adress when its ready.
Outdated version of a sitelen kiwen mockup with words separated by one row of walo and each sentence by two rows.
Current version of sitelen kiwen read top to bottom with two rows of walo for spaces between words, and four rows between sentences.
